The most distinguishing mark of lasting and creative love is
found in the sense of responsibility that goes with it. This is far different
from the hit-and-run tactics of those who use other people for a while and then
put them aside. It is a world away from those who play at loving others with
glowing phrases and a mastery of manipulative arts. It is meant to last and so
it imposes a telling discipline of its
own, discipline that flows from a sense of being responsible for the other in
season and out. This means that the real lover is committed to the good of the
other and not just satisfaction of his own need. its suggests the genuine lover
wants the beloved to grow; only the counterfeit lover wants to control the
other in all the aspects of life....
